My formative
years were spent in a small temple town on the foothills of western ghats. The
sculptures in the famous Shiva
temple belonging
to late Pandya period are awe inspiring. These sculptures have left a
great
impression on me.
This painting is an adaptation of a temple sculpture -
Indian ink on paper used in dry brush technique and the ornaments
embossed with acrylic paint. Indian ink is one of my favorite medium as it helps create depth very easily. Even though, one is restricted to a monochrome palate, I find working with Indian ink quite liberating. 'Wonderment' was sold by Victoria technical
Institute, Chennai in 2006.
