Feeding mother was created for the exhibition
titled ‘Mother and Child’, way back in 2002. I had chosen to depict ordinary
activities that bring out the tenderness and caring of the mother for this
theme. A mother feeding her baby is a natural and intimate act that shows the
mother and child in great harmony. I find the tribal outfits extremely fascinating
given the intricacy and beauty of the clothes and jewelry. Hence, I have
depicted a tribal woman in this composition. A photograph has been used as a
reference for this work. Executed with Indian ink on textured paper using dry
brush technique, this painting was one among those sold in this series.
