Masala Beans Poriyal (மசாலா பீன்ஸ் பொரியல்)

Tender French beans taste wonderful when made into a poriyal. Beans poriyal is often included in feast menu. Masala beans poriyal is a spicy dish that goes well with sambar rice. 

Ingredients: (Serves four)
French Beans – cut into 1” long pieces, 3 tea cups or 600ml measure
Salt – to taste
Mustard – 1 teaspoon
Split urad dhal – 1 teaspoon
Dhania powder – 1 teaspoon
Jeera powder – ½ teaspoon
Red chilli powder – 1 teaspoon
Turmeric powder –½ teaspoon
Asafoetida – a pinch
Oil – 1 tablespoon
Coconut – grated, 1 tablespoon
Curry leaves – a few

Masala Beans Poriyal (மசாலா பீன்ஸ் பொரியல்)
Method: Heat oil in a kadai, add mustard seeds and when they start to turn sputter, add urad dhal and fry till the dhal turns golden brown in color. Add the vegetable pieces, salt, asafoetida and turmeric powder. Mix well, cover and cook on low heat until the beans are done. Now add dhania powder, jerra powder and red chilli powder and mix well. Cook on low flame for a short while. Add grated coconut and toss a few times. Switch off the fire. Garnish with curry leaves. Serve hot with rice and sambar/ kuzhambu/ rasam.
