Tomato pachadi is the easiest raitha and it goes well with spicy mixed rice preparations.

Curds – half
a tumbler or 100ml
Tomato, cut
into small pieces – 1 no
Green chilli,
small, chopped – 1 no
Salt – to taste
Oil – 1 teaspoon
Mustard
seeds – ½ teaspoon
Asafoetida –
a pinch
Curry leaves
– a few
Tomato pachadi (தக்காளிப் பச்சடி) |
Method: Beat the
curds well. Add salt and asafoetida to beaten curds and mix well. Mix little
salt to tomato pieces and allow it to stand for 5 minutes. Heat oil in a tadka
pan (spice pan/தாளிக்கிற கரண்டி) and add mustard seeds. Once they start to sputter
switch off the fire. Add seasoning and tomato pieces to the curds and mix well.
Garnish with curry leaves. Pachadi can be served as an accompaniment to sambar
rice or part of the feast menu.
