Spicy Tomato Chutney


Tomato chutney can be eaten along with breakfast items like idly, dosa or uppuma as well as chappati, paratha or tortilla. You can also use it as a base to make other gravies. 

Ingredients:

Onions – 1 no, chopped
Tomato – 3 no, cut into small pieces
Red chilli powder – ¾ teaspoon
Turmeric powder – ½ teaspoon
Salt – ¾ teaspoon (adjust to taste)
Oil – 2 teaspoons
Mustard seeds – ½ teaspoon
Curry leaves – a few

Spicy Tomato Chutney
Method: Heat oil in a kadai/wok, add mustard seeds and when they start to sputter add onions and fry till they become transparent. Add the tomato pieces, turmeric powder, red chilli powder and salt. Mix well. Cover and cook on low flame till tomatoes become pulpy. Mash the tomatoes with a ladle and continue to cook till oil separates. Switch off the fire and garnish with curry leaves. Your tomato chutney is ready!
