This work was the result of my effort to understand how acrylic paint works on canvas. I had used a photograph as a reference to create this work. After applying washes of burnt umber, I had used thicker paint to build the components. My palette involved titanium white, yellow ochre, permanent yellow medium & deep, burnt umber and burnt sienna in matte medium. I like the way the yellow mushrooms stand against the dark background. Instead of attempting a realistic portrayal, I have enhanced tone and depth of the colors to give a surrealistic feel to this ordinary subject.
