Barcode

One of the many consequences of globalization is the commodification of life itself, which is a very disturbing trend. I wanted to depict my reaction to this issue and created a composition titled ‘Barcode’.  This composition is set against backdrop of sky to indicate the universal nature of the problem. A woman’s face is chosen deliberately to highlight how woman’s body is used in marketing of goods and products, while the woman’s face is depicted as a mask with a ‘barcode’ on the forehead. Hair encircling the world indicates the serious nature of the issue. This painting was executed using mixed media including poster colors, acrylic paint and Indian ink on paper.
