On a rainy Sunday, waking up late in the morning, one always wonders
what to make for breakfast. No mood for elaborate preparation and equally, no
desire to settle down for bread or corn flakes! Oats uppuma is one of the 'quick recipes' you
could try on these days! What’s more? It’s healthy, easy and tasty! Let’s check
the recipe…
Ingredients: (Serves 1)
Rolled oats – 1 cup
Onion – small 1 no,
chopped
Green chili – 1 no
chopped
Oil – 1 tblsp
Mustard seeds – ½
teaspoon
Urad dhal – ½ teaspoon
Bengal gram dhal – ½
teaspoon
Boiled green peas – 1
tblsp
Curry leaves – a few
Water – 1 cup
Salt – to taste

Method:
Dry roast rolled oats in a kadai on medium flame for a couple of minutes. Allow
it to cool. Heat oil in a kadai; add mustard seeds, and when they start to
sputter, add urad dhal and Bengal gram dhal. Sauté till the dhals turn golden
brown. Add the chopped onion and sauté till it turns transparent. Now add green
chilli, boiled green peas and curry leaves and mix well. Pour in 1 teacup of water.
Add required salt and bring it to boil. Reduce the flame and add the roasted oats
slowly, while stirring continuously. Cover and cook on low flame till the water
is fully absorbed. Switch off the fire. Your breakfast is ready! Serve hot with
any chutney.
