My preference is for classical Carnatic music, though I listen to light music also. My all time favorite singers are M.S.Subbulakshmi, K.J.Yesudas and Maharajapuram Santhanam. However, I do listen to other singers like Balamuralikrishna, Nithyashi Mahadevan, Sudha Ragunathan, Bombay Jayashree etc... I like instrumental music as well, especially Yanni. Some of the foot tapping numbers of cinema music are equally enjoyable.
Music has no language or boundaries. To me the "feel of the music" or "bhava" is more important than the technicalities. Music should touch a chord in you, make you feel one with it and elevate you. All great musicians of different genre, from different countries have accomplished this.
